Goal 02

    All students will use technology to access and analyze information from a variety of sources, including the Internet.

    Strategies

    1. Information literacy will be included across appropriate areas of the district curriculum.
      • The Director of Curriculum, technology coordinator, and library/media specialists will assist faculty with the writing of information literacy units within appropriate areas of their curricula.

      • The district will continue to maintain its membership in the AccessPA project, providing students with access to libraries of information across the state and the PowerLibrary database collection.

      • The district will continue to provide electronic card catalog services for its libraries, and explore the possibility of providing a union catalog for the district with a web-based interface.

    Professional Development

    The Director of Curriculum, technology coordinator, and Library/Media Specialists will collaborate to provide professional development in information literacy to English, reading, social studies, and technology literacy teachers prior to the summer curriculum writing sessions for their respective subjects, so as to prepare them to write information literacy units into their curricula.

    Librarians in each building will provide professional development to the faculty in their respective buildings in the use of AccessPA, AccessPA PowerLibrary, and the electronic card catalog within the first year of this plan.

    The technology coordinator and staff from NEIU 19 will collaborate to provide professional development to all faculty in the use of the Internet and Internet2. These sessions will be included in the monthly technology training sessions arranged by the technology department.

    Monitoring/Evaluation

    The district technology coordinator's annual survey of faculty on technology literacy and usage will include items that ask teachers to evaluate student information literacy skills, looking at both efficiency and effectiveness. In addition, network monitoring tools will be used by the technology department to measure the amount of information requested from the Internet and evaluate the types of information being requested.
