     Theme11-7

    The theme of this chapter would be bravery. Mrs. Dubose was a morphine addict and used it as a pain killer for years. But the one thing she wanted to do was break herself free of it before she died and she did.

    Plot summary

    Atticus warns Jem to be a gentleman to Ms. Dubose, because she is old and sick, however when Mrs. Dubose makes a comment about Atticus being no better then the trash he works for, Jem loses his temper and destroys Mrs. Dubose's bushes using one of Scout's Batons. As punishment for destroying her bushes, Jem has to read to Mrs. Dubose for a month. Mrs. Duboses dies about a month after her reading sessions with Jem, at this time Atticus tells Jem that she had an addicion to morphine, and he was reading to her to fight the addiction. After their talk Atticus gives Jem a box that Mrs. Dubose gave to one of her maids to give to Jem, and in the box was one white Camellia, the same kind of bush that Jem destroyed earlier.
